Joan Jett and the Blackhearts will appear on the Mount Rushmore's American Pride float at this year's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, the South Dakota Department of Tourism announced last week.
“We’re excited to have such a well-known artist perform on our float this year. Joan Jett is a legend in rock music, especially among the generation of visitors South Dakota is looking to attract,” South Dakota Department of Tourism Secretary Jim Hagen said.
Jett, who was born in Pennsylvania, has three top 10 U.S. hits, including "I Love Rock 'n' Roll," which made it to No. 1.
This will be the fourth year the South Dakota Department of Tourism will have a float in the parade. According to a news release, the goal of the promotional campaign is to drive new and repeat visitors to South Dakota, in addition to creating brand awareness.
Neil Diamond appeared on the float in 2011 and Don McLean, singer of "American Pie," appeared in 2012.
