DOT holding stakeholder meetings this week for state rail plan

PIERRE, S.D. - The South Dakota Department of Transportation is currently developing the 2014 South Dakota State Rail Plan to inventory the state’s rail system; identify critical rail system issues, needs and opportunities; articulate policies governing the state’s involvement in the rail system; and establish a long-range investment program for rail infrastructure throughout South Dakota.
The South Dakota Department of Transportation is interested in hearing from various industry stakeholders including freight and passenger rail owners and operators, shippers and receivers, governmental and non-governmental entities, the general public, elected officials, and other interest groups.
A schedule has been set for stakeholder meetings throughout the state:
• Monday, Nov. 18, 8 a.m. CST - Sioux Falls (SDDOT Building - 5316 W. 60th Street)
• Monday, Nov. 18, 5 p.m. CST - Yankton (SDDOT Building - 1306 W. 31st Street)
• Tuesday, Nov. 19, 5 p.m. CST - Aberdeen (Ramkota - 1400 8th Avenue NW)
• Wednesday, Nov. 20, 5 p.m. CST - Pierre (SDDOT Building - 700 E. Broadway Avenue)
• Thursday, Nov. 21, 6 p.m. MST - Rapid City (SDDOT Building - 2300 Eglin Street)
The objective of the stakeholder meetings is to hear and learn from stakeholders on important freight and passenger rail issues, needs and opportunities, as well as learns about any planned improvements to the rail system.
Approximately 30 minutes into each meeting, the state rail plan team will provide a short presentation on the purpose and schedule for the plan.
