BV’s Henderson wins state soccer awards
The South Dakota State Soccer Association announced its 2013 award winners at the SDSSA Awards Banquet held in Spearfish earlier this month.
Brandon Valley senior Jordyn Henderson was awarded the “Goal of the Year” award. Henderson’s goal was selected from video clips submitted of goals scored in the past year when Henderson played midfielder for South Dakota United Barcelona and Brandon Valley High School club teams.
Henderson was also named to the 2013 Class AA Boys All-State First Team.
The SDSSA is the largest youth sports organization in the state serving over 15,000 youth in 33 local associations in 30 communities across the state. The emphasis of the Association is to sup- port community-based soccer programs that will provide a healthy activity for any and all kids who wish to participate.
Splitrock Ladies League results
The Splitrock Ladies bowled Nov. 19 with the following results: High team game and series, Manley Tire, 915 and 2,672; High individual game, Bonnie Kramer, 194; High individual series, Bev Wassenaar, 504.
Joan Engebretson picked up the 3-10 split and bowled 62 pins over her average. Jill Reindl picked up the 4-9 split. Bev Wassenaar picked up the 4-5-7 split. Kathie Franz and Gloria Zellmer picked up the 3-10 split, and DeVona Engebretson picked up the 2-7-8 split.
BV athletes make Metro All-Conference volleyball team
Two Brandon Valley senior athletes have been named to the 2013 Metro All-Conference Volleyball Team. They are Taylor Murtha and Lexie Hoover. Also on the first team are seniors Maggie DeJong (Roosevelt), Ellie Benson (Washington), Steph Buss (Lincoln), Hannah Nieman (Washington), Hannah Stock (Lincoln), Lauren Witte (O’Gorman) and Erinn Temple (Roosevelt); and juniors Taryn Kloth (O’Gorman), Tagyn Larson (Roosevelt) and Dalee Stene (O’Gorman).
Earning honorable mentions were seniors Peyton VandeBrake (Washington), Kiah Damme (Washington), Lauren Hoyne (Lincoln), Peyton Bjorkman (O’Gorman) and Kristin Nassen (Lincoln); and juniors Jessica Mieras (O’Gorman) and Abbie Jarratt (Lincoln).

The Splitrock Ladies bowled Dec. 3 with the following results: High team game and series: Manley Tire, 888 and 2,484; High individual game: Pat Paulsen, 175; High individual series: Cheryl Lyngen, 454.
Jill Reindl picked up the 2-7 and 4-7-10 splits; Gloria Zellmer and Barb Caffrey picked up the 3-10 split; and Elaine Benson picked up the 5-10 split.
Baseball coach, umpire clinic planned
The South Dakota High School Baseball Association in cooperation with the Sioux Empire Baseball Association will host a baseball coach/umpire clinic on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014 at the Best Western Ramkota Hotel and Conference Center in Sioux Falls.
The 2014 clinic will feature area college coaches Adam Boeve (Northwestern College), Brian Disch (Wayne State College), Brian Drent and Jim Scholten (Morningside College), Brian Grunzke (South Dakota State University) and University of Minnesota Turf Manager Mike McDonald.
The umpire clinic will feature GPAC Umpire Coordinator Frank McEntarffer, Jason Selchert (GPAC umpire) and Al Hansen of the South Dakota Umpire Association.
Registration fee for the clinic is $15 and $20 the day of the clinic.

Nominations sought for BV Athletic Hall of Fame
Nominations will be accepted through Dec. 31 for induction into the Brandon Valley Athletic Hall of Fame.
