Presler opens season with title win
Lynx wrestlers take second at Rider Invite

Brandon Valley’s Adam Presler opened his senior season a champion.
The Lynx 138-pounder went unscathed Saturday at the Rider Invitational to capture his weight class title. That placing and a solid first round by the Lynx roster lifted the team to a second place finish behind the tournament hosts, the Roosevelt Rough Riders.
“It was a good start to the season,” said Lynx head coach Kraig Presler. “We were at a point after three weeks of practice where we needed to see our guys compete against outside competition.”
What Coach Presler saw is there are several technical areas the team needs to improve upon.
“But the effort was there,” he said. “It was great to see us earn a top-five finish at every weight class contested.”
Another bright point of the tourney was every Lynx wrestler who competed Saturday won at least one match.
Coming off the first round, the Lynx were positioned in first place, but by the final round they saw that ranking drop to number two.
“Although the final round was a rough round for us, the day as a whole was a good start to what can be a great season,” the coach summed up.
En route to his title win, Presler opened the day by pinning Vermillion’s Noah Walker in 1:40. He then went on a 10-2 tirade to earn a major decision win against West Central’s Jake Anderson. The championship match against Lincoln’s Skyler Castillegia, however, proved to be more of a contest for Presler, who squeaked out a 3-1 win by decision in overtime.
Five other Lynx wrestlers were also in position to win their respective weight classes. At 126 pounds, Connor Rowbotham won his first two matches to set the stage for a match with Roosevelt’s Troy Kiggins, who posted a win by technical fall (16-0). In the 132-pound slot, Jackson Pletten also fell to a Roosevelt Rider. He lost a 13-3 major decision to Roosevelt’s Brock Kortan.
Wyatt Winter’s second place finish in the 160-pound division came at the hands of Vermillion’s Brett Bye. The Tanager won by a 3-1 decision. After posting wins by decision and pin, Brandon Valley’s Andrew Sorensen (195) battled Washington’s Dan Marlette to an 8-5 decision in the title match. Finally, Lynx heavyweight, senior Erik Ode, was pinned by Washington’s Chris Vroman in 2:26 in that championship match.
Roosevelt had six individual champs, which fueled its first place team finish.
Washington and Vermillion each had three champs, while Brandon Valley and Tea Area both had one.
The Lynx hit the road Friday for a quadrangular at Vermillion. In addition to the Tanagers, Brandon Valley will wrestle Dakota Valley and Yankton, with action starting at 5:30 p.m.
