Lynx notch three dual wins at Vermillion quadrangular

The Lynx wrestlers notched three dual wins on the mats at Vermillion Friday night, etching out a 42-32 victory against the Tanagers, and overpowering Dakota Valley 77-6 and Yankton 55-20.
“It was another solid team effort from the Lynx wrestlers,” is how Brandon Valley head coach Kraig Presler summed up the trio of wins.
Brandon Valley’s biggest test of the night came from the host Tanagers. Presler coined the dual as “a close battle right to then end” against a program that “fields a strong team with a few very elite wrestlers.”
Spencer Heidbrink’s 170-pound match against Brandon Hertz proved to be the turning point towards a team victory for Brandon Valley. The Lynx senior came from behind to shoulder Hertz at the 4:48 mark.
“This pin propelled the Lynx to victory and it avenged an earlier loss for Spencer,” Presler said.
The coach also cited the efforts of Connor Smith (145 pounds) and Wyatt Winter (160), despite both wrestlers losing their matches by decision.
Brandon Valley were in control of both of their lopsided wins against Dakota Valley and Yankton.
Presler described Dakota Valley as “a very young team.”
“It showed as the team cruised to an easy victory,” the coach said.
Brandon Valley closed out the night against the Bucks, who sport an outstanding group of wrestlers in the bottom half of their lineup, Presler said. “But our strength in the upper weights proved to be too much for Yankton on this night,” he added.
The Lynx won every match from 160 pounds out to pull off the 55-20 win against an ESD Conference opponent.
Finishing the night unscathed were Jackson Pletten (132), Adam Presler (138), Heidbrink, Andrew Sorensen (195), Clayton Ebright (220) and Erik Ode (285).
The Lynx junior varsity also turned in a good night on the Tanager mats, winning all three of their matches.
Before the Christmas break, Brandon Valley travels to Sioux Falls Lincoln this Thursday for a triangular with the O’Gorman Knights and the host Patriots starting at 5:30, and on Saturday, the team competes in the Warrior Invite at Sioux Falls Washington with wrestling starting at 9 a.m.
