Nic Peterson’s six 3-pointers were just not enough to fuel the Lynx boys past the O’Gorman Knights Saturday in the O’G gym. The Knights held on to win the Metro Conference contest, 61-58.

Peterson, who finished with 23 points, and the Lynx were coming off a tough battle the night before against Brookings, to face an even bigger challenge Saturday.

Lynx head coach Brent Deckert said he was pleased with the work ethic the boys brought to the O’G court.

“After a tough win the night before at home we talked a lot about giving all the energy we had left tonight,” Deckert said.

The Lynx got off to a slow start Saturday, producing just five points to O’G’s 10 in the opening stanza. Following that rock start, Brandon Valley trailed 25-11 with three minutes to go in the half and then went on a 14-point scoring frenzy to claw their way back to a two-point deficit at the break, 27-25.

“We were very weak in our gap pressure and we didn’t rebound well enough to have a chance to finish our comeback,” Deckert said.

The Lynx continued their battle to overcome O’Gorman through the second half, but were sevent points behind at the end of three, 44-37, and three at the buzzer, 61-58.
“It was a game of runs; we just didn’t get the last one,” Deckert said.

Senior Nic Peterson led the Lynx charge with 23 points that included six 3-pointers.
Junior Austin Trevino added 14 points and senior Jacob Adams accounted for nine.

Deckert credits the play of Devan West, who finished with five points. “He was amazing with the basketball and creating many scoring opportunities for the rest of the team,” he said.

For O’Gorman, Braxton Elliot had 22 points and Davis Cowan scored 12 of his 17 points in the second half. Elliot was 10 of 11 from the free throw line while Connor Nagel added 14 points and Spencer Hopkins the remaining eight points for O’Gorman.

The two Metro Conference teams measured on the boards. Brandon Valley had 26; O’Gorman hauled in 28. Adams and Petersen had seven and five, respectively.

Both teams charted four assists. Brandon Valley had four steals and O’Gorman had five.

With a 1-1 record, Deckert said the It was still a good weekend. We didn’t get both the W’s we were expecting but we have some great film against some quality opponents and we are looking forward another great week of practice,” Deckert said.

The Lynx host Pierre this Saturday at 5 p.m. and are then on break until Jan. 4, when they travel to face ESD foe, the Huron Tigers.
