Three BV wrestlers reach title matches at weekend Warrior Invite

Lynx head coach Kraig Presler and the Lynx wrestlers found there’s more work to be done following a dismal seventh place finish in Saturday’s eight-team Warrior Invitational.
Coming off lopsided wins against Sioux Falls Lincoln and O’Gorman, the Lynx went up against their toughest competition to date, according to Presler.
“We did not finish as high as a team as I thought we could,” he said, “but there were bright spots during the day.”
Among the “bright spots” was winning all three overtime matches and finishing with better performances in the final round, something they didn’t do at the Roosevelt tournament earlier this month.
Senior Adam Presler (138) raised his season mark to 9-0, going unscathed in his three matches. He opened with a 14-3 major decision win against Rapid City Central’s Nathan Dressen, and followed up with a 4-2 decision against Watertown’s James Suter. That set the stage for his title match against Washington’s Grant Rosheim. That match proved to be a big test for Presler, who pulled off the 5-3 decision in overtime.
“Adam won top prize in a weight class very deep with talent,” the coach said.
For the first time in his prep career, Dawson Kremlacek (113) reached the finals. His road to the finals began with a 9-0 major decision win against teammate Matt Eigenberg, who wrestled unattached Saturday. Kremlacek then went on to post a 9-7 decision against Rapid City Stevens’ Brandon Sharkey. In the championship match, Watertown’s Carter Lohr posted a 3-0 win by decision.
Junior Wyatt Winter wrestled his way to the 160-pound title match. His journey started with a 3-2 decision against Watertown’s Jake Brower, followed by an all-important 13-11 decision in overtime against Washington’s Peyton Ledbetter. Those two wins then pitted Winter against Rapid City Stevens’ Kasey Klapprodt, who won by a 7-1 decision.
“Wyatt survived a scare in the semifinals with an incredible flurry of action to overcome a 9-5 deficit and win in overtime,” Coach Presler said.
Andrew Sorensen (195) opened the tourney with a 6-4 setback by Washington’s Dan Marlette. The Lynx sophomore battled back, however, posting a 10-0 major decision against Dexter Gaikowski of Watertown, which put him in position to win third place. And that’s just what Sorensen did by blanking Mitchell’s Tyson Sprinkle in the 6-0 decision victory.
Finally, Connor Smith turned in “very solid performances” to take fourth place in the 145-pound division. Casey Skillingstad of Yankton pinned Smith in his opening match. Smith then went on a two-pin roll, first shouldering Chayden Fitzsimmons of Washington and then Casey Cox of Watertown. In the third place match, Ty Welsch of Rapid City Central, registered a 5-0 decision against Smith.
Watertown edged Rapid City Central 190-189 to win the Warrior Invitational wrestling tournament Saturday at Washington. Brandon Valley’s 101 points placed them in seventh place.
Next up for the Lynx is the Floyd Farrand Invitational at Sioux Falls Lincoln on Friday and Saturday. Wrestling starts at 11 a.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday.
