Although the temperatures were warming up outside, the Lynx girls were ice cold inside the Lincoln gym Saturday, converting just 8-of-51 shots (15.7 percent) from the field in the 53-32 Metro Conference loss.

“It’s tough to win a game when shoot (that) from the field,” said Lynx head coach Mark Stadem. “We got a bunch of good looks, but they wouldn’t fall.”

Brandon Valley’s first point came past the mid-way mark of the first quarter, when senior Lexi Hoover, who finished with seven points, hit the second of two free throws. By the quarter’s end, Brandon Valley had managed just two more points, compliments of Carley Kueter, who led the team with 10 points. After jumping out to a quick lead, the Patriots went more than three minutes without a score to take a 10-3 advantage into the second.

The second quarter was much of the same misery the Lady Lynx faced in the first, while Lincoln went to work putting up a dozen points to post a 22-9 halftime score.

Brandon Valley came out with renewed confidence in the second half, nearly keeping pace with the Lady Pats, who outscored the Lynx 14-13 for a 36-22 game.

Lincoln put up another 17 points in the fourth and held the Lady Lynx to 10 en route to the 53-32 Metro Conference victory.

In addition to the scoring endeavors of Kueter and Hoover, Elsie Zajicek and Kasara Pollema both chipped in four.

At the line, Brandon Valley picked up 13-of-20, 65 percent endeavor.

Two game stats Stadem said his team has shown improvement on is their work on the boards and cutting downs on their turnovers.

“We are improving on the glass and we took better care on the ball in this game,” he said.

With 24 total rebounds to their credit, the Lynx were led on the glass by Zajieck and Kueter, who both hauled in five. Taylor Thorson and Hannah Paauw clamped onto three apiece.

The Lynx had 13 turnovers, six steals and one assist.

The 2-7 Lady Lynx return to Eastern South Dakota Conference action this Thursday and Friday, when they host the Brookings Bobcats and the Aberdeen Central Golden Eagles, respectively. Tip off is at 7 both nights.

Their team was also scheduled for a Jan. 14 road game at Harrisburg, but Thursday’s blizzard postponed the game to Thursday, Feb. 6.
