BVHS sends record number to S.D. All-State Band

Brandon Valley High School set another school record, but this record didn’t come on the basketball court. Instead, it came out of the band program, where 15 student musicians were selected for this year's South Dakota All State Bands.
BVHS band director Jesse Miller reports that 37 students auditioned for the elite bands, with 15 garnering the selection. “Several other students were also very close to making the bands,” Miller said.
This year, approximately 800 students auditioned from throughout the state, with Brandon Valley coming in second with the highest amount of students from any school in the state selected to the All State Bands.
Selected to the Lewis Band are: Flute - Bailey Quanbeck;
Clarinet - Erin Livingston;
Trumpet -Chelsey Schmeling;
French Horns - Eden Burch and Sabrina Dietz;
Tuba - Ethan Brown;
String Bass - Dawson Kremlacek
Secleted to the Clark Band are: Bassoon - Eric Hanson, first chair;
Clarinets - Emily Oyos, Kjerstin Williams, Kaily Davis;
Bass Clarinet - Brock Hanson, first chair;
Tenor Saxophone - Greg Lundberg. first chair;
Trumpet - Tanya Tingle; and
Tuba - Patrick Gallo.
BVHS musicians shine at Region 2 instrumental contest
Brandon Valley High School had a great showing Feb. 4 at the Region II solo and ensemble instrumental contest at Augustana College in Sioux Falls.
Bethany Headrick, Emily Kluin, Greg Lundberg, Eric Hanson, Kayla Knutson, Erin Livingston, Kaily Davis, Kjerstin Williams, Emily Oyos, Braden Paulsen, Kate Ellis, Tanya Tingle, Jeanna Brandsrud, Tonner Bowman, Katie Wright, Cassie Onnen, Erik Ode, Patrick Gallo, Ethan Brown, Isaiah Dietz, Amber Dubbelde, Jessica Berg, Matthew Skadsen, Sabrina Dietz, and Eden Burch earned Superior Ratings.
Excellent Ratings went to Will Thompson, Lexie Godwin, Brock Hanson, Brionna Spurlin, Richard Blue V, Sabrina Simons, Joel Kocer, Gaven Bowman, and James House.
Top Honors for the day in solo and ensemble awards goes to Bailey Quanbeck and Chelsey Schmeling in the solo category and the duet of Chelsey Schmeling and Jeanna Brandsrud for earning perfect scores.
In addition, Sarah House and Erin Livingston collected a superior rating with their clarinet duet, while Kaily Davis and Taylor Staab received an excellent rating as well in the duet category.
