BVSD welcomes 45-plus new employees

The start of a new school year arrived this week for Brandon Valley staff and students. The district welcomes over 45 new employees including 26 new to the professional staff. Most of these new hires are not new positions but are replacements for retirements and for those moving to positions elsewhere.
Brandon Valley’s reputation as a top school district in South Dakota and its well-situated geographical location allow us the relative luxury of hiring some wonderful new people to serve the students and families of the district. The news this summer has been full of reports of teacher shortages and the difficulty schools are having hiring classified staff. That shortage has not hit Brandon Valley yet and the district is fully staffed in terms of professional staff, but is still looking for a few bus drivers.
(Note: At $42 per trip it is certainly an excellent part time income. A trip takes an average of 1.5 hours of a person’s time and with two trips per day, morning and afternoon, a driver earns $84 per day. Training help is available.)
The Brandon Valley Challenger will be highlighting some of the new teachers over the next few weeks to help the community get to know them. We are looking forward to getting to know them better as they begin their careers in Brandon Valley and we know they will join us in working hard to create learning environments that result in success. Let the learning begin!
