Have you 'Googled' yourself?

Have you ever “Googled” yourself?

I know, “Googling” yourself sounds a bit on the naughty side, doesn’t it? But we’re all smart enough to know that it’s not.

A few years back, out of boredom, I plunked my named into the “search” box on my computer’s Internet connection, and lo and behold, up popped an assortment of “Jill Meier” profiles.

They say we all have a “twin” out there, somewhere in this big ol’ world we live in. But I never imagined there were so many others out there that share my same name.
From a simple review of the other “Jill Meier” profiles that showed up on my computer screen, I reckon that their lives could be a bit more “exciting” than the life of this 50-year-old weekly newspaper editor.

Here’s what I found: Jill Meier in Wisconsin on Twitter, Jill Meier in Penticton, British Columbia, Canada, Jill Meier in Milwaukee, Jill Meier on Pinterest, Jill Meier in the White Pages, Jill Meier in Palatine, Ill., Jill Meier in Jill Meier’s runner profile – now, that’s certainly a stretch from this Jill Meier – and even Jill Meier, an attorney in Portland, Ore. And there were more, including the actual me, which I spied among the listings.

I found my name listed in a Nashville-produced video, “Lil Sister,” performed by Baby Bam Boo featuring Fitz and you guessed it, Jill Meier! The YouTube site lists me as singing vocals.

I’ll be honest with you – I don’t have the worst voice you’ll ever hear, but I’m not heading out to the next “American Idol” audition either. Let’s just say my singing should be reserved for the shower, the car or an occasional session of karaoke.

On another site, seems I have a career as a pediatric nurse practitioner in Indianapolis. The site lists my medical specialties, provides an area for patients to share their feedback on their experience with Jill Meier, the pediatrician, and if satisfied, you can even schedule an appointment with me there.

That, too, is a far cry from this Jill Meier. I don’t like the sight of blood, broken bones or people who can’t keep their dinner down. They all make me queasy.

Yes, I found there are many other Jill Meier’s out there in this big ‘ol world, and probably some with more exciting lives than I. But I also discovered through my search that being Jill Meier in Brandon, S.D., is just the person I want to be.
Farmer’s Market looking for street musicians
Doug Metcalf continues to add to the ongoing Farmer’s Market he organized last Saturday in Brandon. Metcalf is now looking for street musicians who want to perform in the outdoor setting.

If you’re interested, give him a call at 582-6045 or 360-5009.

And speaking of the Farmer’s Market, as you read on page 1, the first week was deemed a success, so it will continue until further notice. More vendors are encouraged to participate.
Community organization needs
Needs at the Brandon Area Food Pantry this month are Homestyle Bakes, pancake mix and syrup, jelly, saltine crackers, instant mashed potatoes (bagged), Toast ‘Ems/Pop Tarts, and pudding cups.

While always appreciated, the Pantry has a large supply of canned goods in stock. Monetary donations are always appreciated. Before donating, please check the expiration date, as expired food items cannot be distributed.

The BAFP is located at 406 Main Ave., and is open from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. To donate to the food pantry or for more information, call 582-7001.

The Brandon Lions Club also wants your aluminum cans. Proceeds from the sale of aluminum funds requests to the Club for vision and hearing impairment needs.

The Lions Club collection shed is located in the Sunshine Foods parking lot.
