There are several opportunities for senior citizens in Brandon. The city sponsors a group that gets together once a month, and one of Brandonís churches has a group that meets monthly. Brandon also has a municipal transit bus.
Brandon Senior Citizens meets every Thursday at the VFW Post Home, 321 Main St., at 12:30 p.m. Participants usually play cards, Bingo or other games. On the third Thursday of the month, members have a $4 catered dinner at 12 p.m. Those who plan to eat must call by the prior Monday for reservations. To learn more, call Ken Kuhnert at 582-7329.
Brandon Lutheran Church has the OK (Old Kids) Klub, which meets the second Wednesday of the month at 12 p.m. in the churchís Friendship Room. The people who attend share a potluck lunch and then visit and play cards and other games. For more information, call Darlene Petersen at 582-6343.
Brandon City Transit, Inc., has been operating since January 2003. Anyone can use it for $1 per ride, but for people 60 years and older, the service is free or by donation.
People use the transit bus to go to medical or beauty shop appointments, grocery store, social events, day care, shopping or jobs within Brandon.
The bus runs from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Sundays for church services. To request a ride, call the dispatcher between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at 582-3553.
